If you suspect that you have ADHD, you are about to start a journey of discovery and treatment matching.

It’s important to know that gender specific medicine and personalized treatments are fairly new.

If possible, for the diagnosis find a clinician that specializes in diagnosing adult women with Adhd.

If not, come to the session educated and don’t be afraid to ask all the questions.

Diagnosis is made via computerized testing and/or in-depth interviews, as well as questionnaires that the people closest to you fill out.

The Adhd diagnosis typically includes one of three types – mainly inattentive, mainly hyperactive, and combined.

After the diagnosis, you will start the path to finding the right treatment for you.

Typically, the first and most helpful treatment is medication – stimulants – combined with exercise and nutrition changes, coaching sessions and some types of therapy.

To tailor the best medication and dose for you, your doctor will send you on a trial and error journey that could take up to a year, where you will test different types of stimulants, and titrate different doses. 

If not asked to answer, you should provide your clinician with your specific hormonal information – cycle, birth control, phase of life and more. Those should determine the type of medication and the dose that will be most effective for you.

We recommend that you take notes every day and describe how you feel. Looking back at those notes will help you determine if the specific medication is working for you or not.
